History
Sun Ultimate is a group of Ultimate players, most of whom graduated from Truman State University. When we were in college, tournaments were usually run by a college program, fairly small, and somewhat disorganized. With tournament directors graduating, and different people running the events year after year, it was hard to build and have consistency in the event. Sitting in a bar in downtown Chicago one winter's night in 2005, we decided that we should take it upon ourselves to run a highly organized tournament for college teams. Out of the that idea was born Glory Days. This college event has become the staple of our organization. We LOVE running this event, and we truly feel as though it offers something unique to the Midwest ultimate scene. Our organization has previously hosted Chicago Heavyweights Championship and the Rock. We are a 501(c)3 non-for-profit that was known as Sensei Ultimate for our first 6 years. In 2011, we rebranded as Sun Ultimate in order to increase the professionalism of our organization.
Non-profit
Sun Ultimate is a 501(C)3 and we are proud to say that all proceeds from events goes into supporting the ultimate community. We do this in several ways:
- Free tournament fees to new/struggling programs
- Donations to programs that help at Sun Ultimate events
- Rookie of the year scholarships which pay for team dues and uniforms for the top rookie on a college team
